How do I start a chat session?
To start a chat session with saved contacts, double-click on the name of the contact with whom you want to chat or right-click on the contact name and choose Chat.If the person you want to chat with isn’t already saved in your contacts, type their name in the Search or call field and press Enter. Double-click on their name when it appears.
Can I chat with more than one person at the same time?
To add someone to an existing chat, click on the Add Participants icon on the bottom-right of the chat window. Type the name of the contact that you wish to add and click Add.
To start a new group chat select the required available contacts from your contact list (while holding down the control/command key) and right-click Start a Group Chat.
Can I save my chat in Jabber?
One-on-one conversations are automatically saved to your device, to save a backup of the conversation you can also follow these instructions.
Once you have completed your chat, right-click in the chat area and Save Chat. A Save As window will appear, save your chat history into a HTML file into the desired folder location.
What happens to my chats when I'm signed in to Jabber on multiple devices?
Until you respond you will receive chat messages on all the devices where you’re signed in.
After you respond to a message on one of the devices, subsequent messages will be exchanged only on the device where you responded from.
Contacts
How do I add a contact into the Cisco Jabber client?
Navigate to Settings -> File -> New -> Custom Contact and fill in the required information for the contact. If you would like to also add the contact to a new or existing group, select the desired group name from the drop-down list.
File sharing
Can I share files using Cisco Jabber?
You can share files with anyone using the Cisco Jabber Desktop Client as long as the chat window with the contact is open.
To share files, click on the paper clip icon near the bottom-right of the window then browse to and select the desired file and click Open. This will begin the file transfer request.
The contact should then be prompted to Accept or Decline the file. Once the contact accepts, the file will begin transferring. After the transfer is complete, Jabber will show you where it saved the file.
Mobile devices
Can I use Cisco Jabber on several mobile devices at the same time?
If you are using an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, etc) only one instance of Cisco Jabber can be used at any time.
If you are using an Android device several instances of Cisco Jabber can be run at the same time (eg. an Android smartphone and an Android tablet).
Jabber client
Can I change the default notification sound in Jabber?
It is not currently possible to change the notification sound. However this is a feature that Cisco Jabber will implement in a future version of Jabber.
Why doesn't Jabber show all my phone numbers?
Jabber obtains staff contact details from Staff OASIS. If your phone contact numbers in Jabber are incomplete or incorrect, update them in the My Employment tab.
How do I add a photo to my Cisco Jabber profile?
There is currently no easy process to attach a photo to your Cisco Jabber profile.
How do I update my Jabber status so I don't get interrupted?
You can update your status to Away or Do Not Disturb but there is no easy way to stop messages being received. To change your status, click on the coloured square at the top of the Jabber window and select the desired status or create a custom setting.
You can also turn the sound off by navigating to Settings -> File -> Options -> Sounds and Alerts
